HOME DECOR

We moved into our dream home almost two years ago now and one of the first things we wanted to change was the kitchen. We didn’t want to do a whole kitchen remodel, as the bones and layout of the room were fine. So to change the room and make it suit our needs and style I decided to grab my paintbrush and get to work. By painting the walls the cupboards and backsplash with CIL Realife Paint, changing out the hardware, changing out the window treatments and adding in the bar stools as well as the island (which was a gift from my parents) we were able to completely change the look of our kitchen. For approximately $250.00 (not including the island which was $699.00 from ikea) our kitchen went from drab and boring to modern, hip, clean and fresh…exactly what we were looking for!

BEFORE
AFTER

I purchased the clear acrylic bar stools from Bouclair.  However the first store that I went to only had one stool.  So the helpful sales lady called another store for me and all they had left was the floor model, so they set it aside for me and when I went to pick it up and got it for HALF PRICE!!  What a great deal!

I made the curtains out of fabric I purchased from one of my favorite stores….IKEA.  It was an excellent price, I think it was only about $5.00 a metre at most.

Next on the kitchen redo list will be the lighting…so stay tuned 🙂

2012 Colour Trend In The Home

I have always been a huge fan of orange as a colour. So when the 2012 colour trends were announced late last year, I was pretty pumped that one of the colours chosen was tangerine orange. I quickly rummaged through my design files to find some home decor inspiration.

Now you may not want to go out and do a whole room change just to incorporate this year’s colour in your decor. But what you can do is make small changes to areas that you love to spend time in.

So switching out pillows, rugs, throws, repainting outdated furniture, placing new art on your walls and so much more, is a quick way to add the colour that evokes warmth and comfort. I quickly put together a list of products as a guide for you. These pieces range from $27.00 USD to $269.00 USD.

HOUSE GAWKING: HOUSEBOAT

This week I was searching for a House Gawking Post for you all, and came across this stunning house boat, and just had to share!

Belafonte, was built in 1969 and restored in 2012 by Chris Wyllie and Kristen Coates, it is located in the center of Newport Harbor.  This couple restored this boat and now offers it for others to enjoy as a rental.  I wouldn’t mind having a weekend getaway on this beautifully redone house boat.  I just love that they kept it clean and simple with white as the backdrop allowing the sea to be the main feature.  I also love the little pops of bright colours throughout to modernize the look and feel.  Sail away with me on this beautiful “house tour”.

HOUSE GAWKING: BEACH HOUSE

So last friday night found myself watching Pirates of the Caribbean – The Curse of the Black Pearl, as I had an urge to see the beach and even more so the beaches from my homeland! Yes oh yes…one of the sets for the first Pirates of the Caribbean was in St. Vincent and the Grenadines!!! Spent a few my days on those beaches, roasting in the sun….ahhhhh the memories 🙂
In the essence of being reminded of the beach, take a look at this gorgeous beach home, I can already feel the sand between my toes, salt on my lips and sun against my cheeks:-)
