Why not turn them into beautiful vases! How you ask...well let me show you:)
Step 1 - Gather Items
- Used glass candleholder with or without cover. (I used one with a cover in this tutorial).
- Gloss Enamel Paint by DecorArt (Found these at Michaels Craft Store - $2.99ea)
- A bowl for mixing paint
- Mod Podge
- Hot Glue Gun /E-poxy glue
- Acrylic/Synthetic bristle paint brush - 1" size
- Paper Towel
Step 2 - Clean Candleholder
Clean out all the remaining candle wax and wick from the candleholder. Then using warm water from the tap with dish soap wash the candle holder and let dry. Also if you are using a candleholder with a cover remove the rubber ring that is around the inside of the cover.
Step 3 - Paint
Now it is time to paint!!! (This is my favorite part!!;-)
Now it is time to paint!!! (This is my favorite part!!;-)
- Body - I used three colors in this tutorial and mixed them to get the desired color for the top of my vase. You can do the same or just avoid mixing by using one color. Colors I used were Calypso Blue, Festive Green & White. Using your paint the inside of the glass candleholder.
- Base - I used Iridescence Bronze by Golden Acrylics (this is a professional artist grade acrylic paint -approx -$15.00). You can also use gold enamel paint by DecorArt - $2.99 (you would have to do a few applications to get a solid gold look).Using your paint the outside of the cover.
- Option - you can leave the base unpainted.
Step 4 - The Drying Process
There are two options for drying:
- Air cure for 21 days or;
- Bake in oven after allowing paint to dry for 48hrs. To do so heat oven at 325 and bake both pieces for 30 mins.
Step 5: Put It All Together
Using hot glue or epoxy glue, you want to attach the cover to the base of the candleholder. Let the glue dry.
Now you should have a beautiful vase!
