DIY Lace Earring Jewellery Holder

I don't know about you, but I have so many earrings I simply don't know what to do with them, until now that is!

A few Saturdays ago when I was scrummaging through our garage looking for plastic containers for my son to play with in the snow, I came across an old picture frame and picture that I had in storage, and then it hit me!  I can use this as an earring holder!  How you ask...well by adding some beautiful vintage lace of course!  YAAAA, I was simply ecstatic, I have been trying to think of what I could do with this piece of lace I had found at a local thrift shop and now I had the answer.

FYI...This is my first instructional DIY with pictures that I have put together, so bare with me folks, the pictures aren't the best, but you live you learn, and my next DIY will be that much better :)

Here is the picture and frame that just wasn't working for me anymore.  I couldn't bare giving it to goodwill, as I knew I would be able to do something with it....I am not a pack rat, I swear, but this is definitely one of those items that one would find at the thrift store and wonder why the heck someone would have gotten rid of it.

So without further ado, below is my DIY Lace Earring Jewellery Holder.

Step 1: Gather Materials
  • Frame (new or old)
  • Lace
  • Hot Glue and Glue Gun
  • Paint and Paint Brush (optional)

Step 2: Remove the paper backing off the frame
I didn't remove it as cleanly as I should have, but since no one is actually going to be seeing the back of it I though I would save some time and just live with it.  However, if you are a perfectionist, I am sure you will take your time and meticulously remove every single inch of paper on the back.  I simply didn't have the time, or the patients :)

Step 3: Remove the picture that is inside the frame

Step 4: Paint Frame (Optional)
Ok, this step is completely optional as it will depend on your frame and what, if anything, you want to do to change the look.  But what I did next was use black paint and toned down the amount of gold on the frame, to give it a more antique look.

Step 5: Lay out Lace
Lay out your lace and place the frame over the section you want to be in the frame.

Step 6: Cut out Lace
Cut out the lace larger than the picture size, that way you are able to line the inside of the frame as well to give it a more finished look.

Step 7: Attach Lace to Frame
Hot glue the lace to each of the frames sides starting in the centre and working your way to the corners, pulling tight, but not too tight.

Step 8: Marvel at Your Excellence!
Voila, you have a new handy dandy vintage looking earring holder.  No need for pins or anything, just slide the earring hooks through the lace!  FABULOUS!
